What does the term "Dry eye" mean??

Symptoms of "Dry Eye" :

Causes of occurrence
The sliding film consists of three layers: lipid layer, water and mucin (i.e, mucous). Ці три шари зазвичай зберігають поверхню очей зволоженою та гладкою. Problems with any of these layers can cause dry eyes.

- Female sex. Decreased tear production is more common in women, especially, if they experience hormonal changes due to pregnancy, taking contraceptives or menopause.

- Ocular manifestations of allergy.
- Preservatives in eye drops for local use.
- History of wearing contact lenses or refractive surgery.
- Wind, smoke or dry air.

Complication, which can cause "Dry Eye":
- Damage to the eye surface. Dry eyes can lead to inflammation, damage to the surface of the cornea, decrease in clarity of vision.
- Decreasing quality of life. Сухість очей може призвести зо зниження чіткості зору, compensatory lacrimation , inability to perform usual daily work.
Prevention:
- Уникайте потрапляння сухого гарячого повітря в очі – do not direct hair dryers, car heaters, air conditioners or fans in the face area.
- Зволожуйте повітря. A humidifier can add moisture to dry indoor air.
- Use moisturizing eye drops.
- Take breaks during prolonged visual loads. If you are reading or doing another task, which requires visual concentration, take breaks periodically. Close your eyes for a few minutes. Or tap for a few seconds, so that the tears are evenly distributed in the eyes.
